i need something to help me fall asleep and stay asleep. benadryl doesn’t cut it. suphedrine keeps me up. i’m pretty bad insomniac. alcohol doesn’t keep me asleep. i usually take trazadone and does pretty good but it’s not over the counter and i don’t have health insurance to go get refills. i’ve heard rite aid sleep aid tablets work, but i have not tried them yet. anyone have any suggestions?
I take 2 melatonin pills before bed, it is a nautrally occuring hormone in the human body which helps you sleep and keeps your circadian rhythms normal.
If you start to feel tired late at night so you can’t go to bed earlier, try taking this at the same time every night and going to bed at the same time. You can work your rhythm to whatever time you want yourself to be tired at.

I personally like Tylenol PM. It is non-addictive and seems to keep me asleep for a good 6-8 hours.
However, I am not a true insomniac–I only take Tylenol PM once every few months or so when I’m stressed out.
Hope that helps and I hope you get health insurance soon! Remember, when you do, it’s important to treat the insomnia, itself, and not just the symptoms.
Good luck and good health!

There are otc sleep aids. One of them is the medicine of which benadryl is the name brand so if benadryl doesn’t work, that won’t help you. But there is something else, that’s not benadryl. Forgot the name of it. But just go to the store go to where Unisom and Tylenol PM and such are at and read the ingredients. Find the one that isn’t the generic for benadryl. Tylenol PM has acetaminophen and the generic for benadryl. I use that. For a natural way-ppl say chamomille tea. I don’t like tea so I don’t know if it works. Dramamine-anti nasuea medication makes some ppl sleepy. Trazadone may be one of those $4 medicines at walmart and rite aid, you can ask.

I was a hard core insomniac for about 8 months, I tried everything.
The only thing that even came close to relief was Sominex.
( But I took three pills instead of two, and took another and another if I needed to).
Eventualy, I gave in and got a perscription.

Benadryl didn’t do it for me either, but Tylenol PM did. If I take it though I need to only take one. Two pills made me want to sleep for twelve hours…I don’t use it all the time, most often if I can sleep in, or I have had a few nights in a row I slept really bad. I feels your pain as far as lack of sleep goes. It sucks big time!
