i was the same way. I dont think changing to a prescription will do you good if you already somewhat"hooked" on simple over the counter meds. Simply cuz thats what happened to me. Then i became even more hooked on prescription pills and all that.

it could also be all in your mind. I started already telling myself that i wasnt going to get any sleep if i didnt take them without even giving it a chance. You have to keep telling yourself, "imma fall asleep tonight without them". You might just find out that your body might just "want" it but really doesnt "need" it....
hope that makes sense
good luck
References :
Hi,

Of course taking it forever is not going to be good for your health - it is a drug after all. More to the point, your body may eventually become tolerant, and what then?

It's best to seek alternative natural therapies and remedies to conquer your insomnia. This article has lots of info http://www.howtobeatinsomnia.com
References :
http://www.howtobeatinsomnia.com

The problem with these type of medications is one they usually stop working for you after a few weeks. Two when you take them they can make you feel depressed the following day and basically you were no better off then when you weren't sleeping. And three they can become addictive if you take them for too long. What I would recommend is taking a natural sleep aid. Preferably something with valerian, chamomile and 5htp. I personally take a product called SnoozeEase. You can check them out here. http://www.snoozeease.com
References :
I think it is probably safer than having 4 beers every night which many people do. Whatever works for you unless you have negative side effects I don't see any problem.
References :
Check with your doctor to see if you have a sleep disorder - even if you feel fine. (If you are not sleeping for more than 2 years you are not fine!) Eventually you will start taking more and more or it. I occ. take benadryl to help me sleep (my doctor recommended it becasue my stress level was so high from not sleeping) but did say I should not do it everynight for more than a week.

Make sure you cut out caffeine (yes, that means chocoalte and tea too) and start a bedtime routine. Don't read in bed or watch tv and don't go to bed until you are ready to sleep.
References :
What will eventually happen is that it will stop working for you, that's what happens with all sleep aids, over the counter and prescription. They work for awhile, then eventually your body becomes immune to it at that dose and you would have to increase the dose for it to be effective. But of course increasing the dose isn't really an option because that can be dangerous. My friend started using a similar product to the one you use, and when it stopped working she went to another one, then another, and so on. She even started using some prescription sleep aids, and eventually all of them stop working. It's really best to stop this and maybe have a sleep study done to see why you are having trouble sleeping. I know it's not easy when you don't get much sleep, I'm not much of a sleeper myself. But it really is best to not resort to sleep aids unless it's only every once in awhile.
References :
As long as you take the correct dosage you should be alright.
Maybe it would be better to be on a prescription sleep aid instead.
